Food Safety Training and Courses UK
Don’t just deal with warning sign – look for solutions
I run lots of training courses each year and meet hundreds of interesting and knowledgeable delegates. Often at the beginning of level 2 food safety and health and safety courses I ask who has previously attended this course. I am always surprised when more than half the attendees put up their hands. When I ask managers why people are being sent on the same course they tell me it is either because the accrediting body recommends re-training at fixed intervals or more worrying it is because they see hazards going unchecked or inadequately controlled.
The problem, most training courses cover the warning signs and offer controls, but they do not identify why previously trained persons are not controlling hazards they are aware of in the first place. I am not suggesting training is unimportant or unnecessary, we all have to learn how to do things correctly, but training will not be effective if the business, albeit unintentionally, places obstacles in the way of people doing the job the safe way. In other words, is there a training need because people do not know what to do or is it a matter of removing obstacles which prevent people doing what they KNOW they should be doing?
Either way RSA Environmental health can help, if it is because people are unaware of workplace hazards and their controls, we have dynamic trainers who can take them from level 1 courses to level 4. If it is because obstacles are preventing people from doing what they know they should, we have experienced auditors and accident investigators who can identify the underlying and root cause of a problem and offer effective solutions.
